Six Years Down, a Lifetime to Go
July 23, 2011 was the hottest day in Pennsylvania in about 50 years. No joke.
All growing up I had said that I didn’t want to get married outside because the weather was too unpredictable. Then when Dan and I got married, the only thing he ever wanted for his wedding was to get married outside. How do you deny a guy that?!
All that to say, July 23, 2011, though the hottest day EVER, was one of the best days of my life. (But also kind of the worst because I got super sick/dehydrated. Another story.)
To my favorite, Dan-
Wow. S I X years. I swear sometimes it feels like just yesterday I was walking down that aisle to you. But then I look at the life we’ve created together, and I can’t believe it’s only been six years. We’ve done an awful lot together, haven’t we? We survived your graduate school, we visited Niagara Falls, we hiked Mount Washington, moved to Charlotte with no jobs, took a 9 month old baby to Tenerife, bought a house, climbed Mount Mitchell, and had another baby.
We have had so many ups and downs. Lots of downs. You have stayed by my side through everything. I will never have the words to tell you how greatly I appreciate your faithfulness to me and your patience with me as I am still learning how to be the wife you deserve.
We’ve both changed and grown so much in six years. Thank you so much for changing and growing with me. For challenging me and pushing me and helping me grow. I prayed a lot for my husband when I was growing up and I have to say, you exceed anything I could have hoped for.
Thank you for being supportive, thoughtful, loving, and graceful. Thank you for treating me wonderfully always, even when I least deserve it. And thank you for being the most amazing father to our kiddos. They will learn so much from watching the way you love me.
I don’t say it enough at all, but I appreciate you more than you will ever know. Only 6 years in, babe. So excited to spend the rest of my life with you.
I did then, I do now, and I always will. Happy Anniversary!
