Let’s Talk About Babywearing
I want to be real here and just go ahead and say that it is not my favorite thing. I really feel like I’m in the minority with this, and it’s posted eeeeverywhere about the benefits of it and how great it is and moms love it!
We registered for a carrier with Oliver, and I got the K’tan. Admittedly, I found it hard to figure out, at first. Once I got the hang of it, I really did like the wrap I chose. Oliver felt secure and safe and everything important. It’s the physical act itself that I was not a fan of. Maybe it’s just my kids, but they move A LOT. So it really just feels like I have a slippery seal attached to me. It hurts my back and their little knees or arms dig into my stomach- it’s kind of like being pregnant, but on the outside. I know there are supposedly great bonding benefits and all of that, but it’s just not my favorite thing ever.
All that said, babywearing is so necessary!
I mentioned in my post about having two kids that babywearing is essential for surviving two kids. Despite my personal feelings on babywearing, I stand by that statement. Honestly, even when it was just Oliver, there were times that I just had to wear him because it was the only way to calm him down. I wore him so many times to make dinner, clean the house, or even just get him to sleep!
And with Zoey, babywearing is a complete nonnegotiable. Y’all, my toddler is a tad crazy (see previous post). I have to be able to have my hands free and be able to move after him. Zoey also really strongly despises her carseat and stroller, so it’s the only way to keep her calm at the park or on walks. So even though babywearing is not my favorite, I’ve become quite the pro at it and do it constantly!
But let’s real mom talk here for a minute- when you’ve worn your baby, how many times have you ended up with spit up/throw up/drool down your shirt and all over the front of you? Cause it’s been a lot for me. I’m pretty sure this is part of the reason I don’t love babywearing. I end up covered in puke.
Enter the BabyPreferred Bib + Sunshade.
These things are amazing. Just hook it around your carrier straps, and it’s the perfect barrier between your baby’s throw up and your chest. Double use, too; if it’s a sunny day and you don’t want baby’s scalp to get burned, you can easily flip it over to cover his or her head.
The incredibly soft, breathable muslin fabric makes is great for sun protection + easy breathing. It’s also so comfortable for Zoey to lay her head on when she falls asleep on me, which is inevitable when she’s being worn! (This is the main reason I wear her half the time.) Also, they’re super cute and gender neutral, so they will get tons of use in the Blackmon household. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been at the park with Oliver and Zoey and haven’t taken a burp cloth or hat for Zoey where this bib + sunshade would have been so perfect! I love these so much and think they’re a necessity for any baby-wearing mama!
